Trump Urges Zelensky to Accept Two Conditions for Immediate End to Russia-Ukraine War
In a dramatic development, President of the United States Trump has reportedly called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to accept two key conditions that, he claims, would bring an immediate end to the ongoing conflict with Russia.
According to Trump, Ukraine must first relinquish its claim to Crimea, and second, cede control of the Donbas region. Should Kyiv agree, Trump asserted, Russian President Vladimir Putin would order an instant ceasefire, halt hostilities in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, and pledge not to attack Ukraine or other NATO members in the future.
The proposals touch on some of the most sensitive fault lines in the war. Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014, has long been viewed as a strategic prize due to its Black Sea access. Analysts argue that had Ukraine invested more heavily in the region years ago, it might not have fallen so swiftly back under Moscow’s control. The loss of Crimea pushed Ukraine to bolster its defenses in Donbas—yet many observers note that this industrial heartland had long been a predetermined objective in Russia’s strategic calculations.
From Moscow’s perspective, Crimea and Donbas form the core of a natural buffer zone. Stretching from Belarus in the north through Donbas and down to Crimea, the area offers Russia a layered defensive belt. Control of these territories would significantly diminish the strategic value of Ukraine’s potential NATO membership while strengthening Russia’s hold over the Black Sea, where its fleet could serve as a powerful maritime shield.
Given the regions’ strategic importance, few believe the Kremlin would willingly relinquish them. For Putin, Crimea and Donbas remain non-negotiable—while, at least in theory, other issues may still be open to discussion.
