U.S. jury orders Tesla to pay over $200 million in damages; Musk says he will appeal
On August 1 local time, a jury in Florida, USA, ruled that US electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla should bear partial responsibility for a fatal car accident caused by a Model S equipped with an autonomous driving system in 2019, and ordered the company to pay approximately US$243 million in compensation to the family of a deceased woman and an injured person.
The judgment includes $129 million in compensatory damages (with Tesla bearing 33% of the responsibility) and $200 million in punitive damages, totaling approximately $243 million.
In response, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated on the same day that Tesla would appeal the Florida jury's ruling.
